Automated image analysis technology is set to revolutionise security screening improving detection accuracy and operational efficiency.
SeeTrue’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology provides automatic threat detection and almost instantly flags up with a prohibited item is present in a passenger’s luggage no matter how it is positioned in the bag. Operating beyond human sight, it enables items to be left in bags, reducing manual procedure and increasing throughput while maximising safety.
RedteQ is acting as SeeTrue’s agent in the UK and is setting up a demo area at their workshop in Hook, Hampshire where customers can put it through its paces.
“We have set it up on an x-ray machine and are putting packed bags through that have weapons concealed inside to show how it works. Customers are also invited to bring their own test kits to trial its capacity,” explained RedteQ’s Senior Engineer and Director Alan Redpath.
The technology can be fitted to any existing x-ray machine of any size and calibrated as required. Very little operational training is required and with operators able to monitor more than one screen at a time, it can help with pressure on staffing levels.
“There has been quite a lot of interest in the SeeTrue technology already and SeeTrue have trials lined up around the world. In the UK it is on trial at major UK airports and an international transport facility is trialling it in the Netherlands,” said Alan.
“AI automated detections system definitely help reduce risk. Manual screening is both open to interpretation by the person watching the monitors and prone to the human fallibilities of distraction and tiredness. AI is constantly watching, knows exactly what it is looking for how ever well concealed, and will set off a clear alert without questioning itself when prohibited items are detected.
“As well as travel settings, we see a value for it in the entertainment and sporting sectors, at large events, where improving the security screening process so that it is faster, more effective and reduces risk would be a massive benefit. It’s something we will be looking to add to our rental fleet in months to come.”
