Our Story

Background

The company is built on the engineering skills, knowledge and experience Alan has accrued over a 20+ year career stemming from an electronics apprenticeship with the Atomic Weapons Establishment, whose technology is way ahead of what most organisations have ever seen, plus time spent as a field and test engineer developing expertise in ionising radiation, detection technology and checkpoint security systems.

Reflecting Alan’s versatile, solutions-oriented professional approach, RedteQ has established a reputation based on flexibility, quality and consistency which keeps our customers coming back. We have a ‘fix not fail’ attitude with a high ‘first time fix’ success rate that even original equipment manufacturers cannot match.

We pride ourselves on our customer service and standard of our workmanship with customer communication, attention to detail and continuous improvement being contributory factors in RedteQ’s development and resulting in the word-of-mouth recommendations driving our growth and success.

Timeline

  1. 2014: Founded
Established by Alan Redpath in 2014, from his garage at home, after he recognised a global gap in the aviation market for independent specialist checkpoint security operational and technical support and maintenance.
  2. 2018: Company grows
RedteQ’s workforce doubled when Calvin Nyoni joined the company in 2018 and fast became one of the best engineers in the industry today. His recruitment meant we could not only take on more maintenance and repair work but could branch out into purchasing, refurbishing and selling on redundant equipment.
  3. 2018: Preventing would-be Guy Fawkes
We landed the contract to provide a maintenance and support package to the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) in 2018 on their advanced explosives trace detection equipment.
  4. 2019: On the move
After several ‘garage’ years, RedteQ moved first to a 625sqft industrial unit in Ash Vale in Surrey in June ’19 and, having outgrown that, to a 1,468sqft two storey unit in Hook, Hampshire in January ’22. This has dedicated office, lab and workshop space and is fast becoming too small!
  5. 2020: Combatting COVID
We worked with Eurostar to develop and install the world’s first automated tray return COVID disinfection system, replacing the need for manual cleaning and sustaining efficient throughput on the international high speed rail service’s x-ray checkpoints.

Sustainability

The paramount need to ensure the safety of passengers, audiences, visitors and employees can lead to some checkpoint equipment being deemed redundant and in need of replacement before its time.

We provide a sustainable route for disposing of it which:

  • Recycles redundant equipment
  • Refurbishes it for reuse
  • Recovers and reuses working parts
  • Benefits those otherwise unable to afford it
  • Delivers financial savings
  • Reduces carbon footprint
